Delta 2023: Group advocate for a governor of Ijaw extraction

By Timi Bibi,

Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Delta State a pan Delta group that styles itself as Concerned Deltans for Good Governance, CDGG, has called on major political parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to give the 2023 governorship ticket aspirant from the Ijaw extraction, in Delta South Senatorial District.

CDGG in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Ambassador Gladys Okeoghene Agbro, and Secretary, Mr. Brisibe Michael Oruye, after a meeting over the weekend, in Warri, said that they prefer an equitable zoning formula, if zoning must be followed and if the political peace in the state is to be maintained.

The group postulated that as at the last count, there was no known written agreement between the various senatorial zones in the state in respect of power rotation, and if there was one that was not made public, equity demands, that economic contribution should be the determining factor this time in choosing who leads the state.

They added that it be more equitable for the Ijaw nation in Delta to produce the next governor of the state in 2023; considering the fact that the position has gone round the three Senatorial Districts, and being the area that contributes more to the revenue of the state, equity demands that they are allowed to produce the next governor.

“First we have to point out that there is no evidence to show that there was any agreement on zoning since 1999,  and if there was one that is not made public, which exists,  then we have to start with the area that has the highest economic contribution to the state.

Dr. Braduce Amakazi Angozi

“It’s, therefore, right to zone the governorship slot to the Ijaw ethnic nationality, in the Delta South Senatorial District. This is what is called equity. Ijaw is the second-largest tribe in the state. It produces the largest source of income that is used for state development. We as a party must look at this issue critically, and make a decision that will be fair and just.”

The group further stated that they are supporting the aspiration of Dr. Braduce Amakazi Angozi, to be the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 governorship Election.

They said they are giving him their supports based on his track records as one who believes in the holistic development of the state, being a successful businessman, and the man with ingenuity that will propel the state to more development after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure.

“We also have searched and examined all the possible candidates from the PDP, we have decided to support the aspiration of Dr. Braduce Amakazi Angozi. This is based on his track records. We have followed him, checked his background, and since he left the government circle he had focused on developing his businesses and communities around him.”

“While in government, his records still speak even after he has left the government over 12 years ago. He is a lover of the people, especially the youths. We know if he is given the ticket, and gets into office, he will continue the development of the state where this government led by Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, will end. There will be continuity of development with new ideas on food and job security,” they added.
