COVID-19: Bishop Okoro urges Edo govt to engage stakeholders enlighten people to get vaccinated

The General Overseer, Righteousness Preaching Mission International Inc., Bishop Dr Sharp Okoro has called on government to engage stakeholders in the state to further enlighten people on the need for them to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 Virus.

Bishop Dr Okoro made this known while chatting with our Correspondent in Benin on the recent pronouncement of the Governor of the state, Mr Godwin Obaseki to restrict unvaccinated persons from their workplaces, worship centres, banks and other public places.

Bishop Dr Okoro who noted that the pronouncement by government came as a rude shock considering his academic status said that though government has the good intentions of preserving lives and property, to be inoculated is a decision that government cannot make for the people.

” It is rebellion against the fundamental rights of the citizens. You don’t force people to go to the hospital to be healed. They should be left with the right to be vaccinated. When you force vaccination on people they will feel there is something wrong. I was one of those that mobilized people to vote for him in the election that ushered him in for a second term and I don’t regret that because he is still the best.

He should engage us as religious leaders to enlighten our members on the benefit they stand to gain when vaccinated”.

He stated that people have the right to be afraid due to the multitude of information making the rounds concerning the safety of the vaccine adding it is on record that some people died instantly while some did days after they were jabbed.

” Has the government been able to establish the safety of the Vaccine? Why should it be used in Nigeria when it was stated in some Vaccines that it should not be used in some continents. I want to toe the line of the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle in his submission in his national broadcast recently that the Federal Government should not force Nigerians to take the Covid-19 vaccine but that church leaders should be told to enlighten their members”.
