3 Naval ratings arrested in Delta for guarding a house where kidnapped victim is kept

Three naval ratings said to be guarding a house, where 29-years old kidnapped victim from Warri was kept has been arrested by the police in Delta State for alleged involvements in a kidnapping case.

The naval personnel were picked up at a house allegedly owned by a naval officer (name withheld) along Ajogodo road in Sapele, Sapele local government area of the State.

Advocate.ng gathered that the three naval ratings whose name could not be ascertained as at press time were arrested on Saturday evening after a suspect was apprehended why trying to collect ransom, his confession on the whereabout of their kidnapped victim.

A security source who spoke to us in confidence narrated how the victim, a 29 years old young man was kidnapped on Tuesday in Warri and brought to Sapele and kept at the house of a naval officer.

According to our source, “the victim was kidnapped in Warri on Tuesday and the abductors were demanding for N11m as ransom, and when the money was not forthcoming, the kidnappers then demanded the documents of the victim’s piece of land located at Abraka, the victim’s family agreed with them and the girlfriend was directed to come to Sapele with the land documents.”

However, on Saturday, men from the ‘A’ division in Warri were drafted to Sapele, with the victim’s girlfriend to help locate the kidnappers, when they arrived in Sapele, they reached out to the Sapele Divisional Police Officer, Harrison Nwabuisi, who in turn led his men and that of the ‘A’ division to the rescue.

Advocate.ng further gathered that the kidnappers were first led to the Army formation in Ugbeyiyi and from there directed to Ogorode industrial area, probably eager to collect the victim’s land documents, “they came, as directed, to collect the documents, only to be rounded up by the army and the police.”

However, on sighting the security personnel, the abductors were said to have fled, while one of them was arrested.

They arrested one who was said to have confessed where the kidnapped victim was kept and he directed them to the building, where the victim was found, closely watched by three naval ratings.

A reliable security source also told our correspondent that the three naval men have been arrested and taken to Warri, while the victim who was found head shaven has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

The building said to belong to a Naval Officer, has been a subject of litigation for some time now but has always been watched by men of the Nigerian Navy.

When contacted, the Delta State Police spokesman, Edafe Bright though confirmed the arrest of three persons in relation to the kidnap, “I can’t confirm if they are naval men, I am preparing a press release to that effect and I will reach you soon,” he said.
