LG Poll: Returning incumbent chairman will alter Ughelli South political arrangement, says Ewu people

By Kennedy Atevure,

The people of Ewu political bloc, made of Ewu, Okparabe and Arhavwarien kingdoms in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state have stated that returning the incumbent council Chairman will alter the political zoning arrangements in the area.

They also appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to consider the existing zoning arrangement in the area in choosing who the next council chairman becomes.

The people made this known during the unveiling of the campaign office of Olorogun Matthew Efeviroro Edjuto, Ughelli South chairmanship aspirant under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party at Otor-Ewu town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking on behalf of the people during the ceremony, Captain Peter Ogaga and Hon. Emmanuel Okpatako, lamented that the Ewu bloc has been grossly marginalized in terms of appointments and elective positions, hence the need for the next council chairman to come from the Ewu bloc.

According to them, the present council chairman may have performed creditably well or highly favoured by the governor but returning him will greatly alter the political arrangement within Ewu and Olomu political bloc.

“It is in line with the above that we appeal to our amiable governor to use his wealth of experience in politics to appoint the present Council Chairman of Ughelli South, Dr. Richard Kofi into an office at the state level to enable the Ewu people has their share of the council chairmanship seat come 2021.

“Any error to return him will spell doom for the political arrangement in Ughelli South Local Government Council, and it will negatively affect the Ewu political bloc that has already been marginalize in terms of appointive and elective positions in the council area”, it added.
