Delta monarchs pledge to support Rotary International

The Olu of Warri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Ikenwonli 1,  and his counterpart, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom His Royal Majesty, Noble Oyibo Eshementan, Orefe 111 have both pledge their unflinching support for Rotary International Club, District 9141 led by the District Governor,  Mrs Virgina Mayor.

 

The monarchs disclose this when District Governor and other top officers of the Club paid them courtesy calls in their separate palaces in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area and Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

In her address, the District Governor, District 9141 comprising Delta, Bayelsa, Edo and Rivers States said it is improper of her to come to Commission Rotary projects at Warri without first visiting to inform the Warri monarch and intimate him of her presence.

 

She also told the Olu that she is a daughter of the Great Opobo Kingdom of Rivers State.

 

She explained that her District is a very difficult terrain which comprises the Core Niger Delta States where children find it difficult to go school as a result of the riverine nature, stressing that she is encouraged by what various Chapters of Rotary Clubs are doing and, therefore, seek the support and membership of the Warri monarch

 

In his response, the Olu of Warri commended the District Governor and Rotary International for the good and selfless service they are rendering to humanity.

 

While excusing himself from being a member, he said that he has been assisting the organization even before he became Olu.”I will do everything possible to continue to support Rotary. I commend Rotary, for your services to humanity.”

 

At Oghara, the District Governor in her remarks said she was encouraged, mentored and got the experience she is applying today as DG from His Royal Majesty, Orefe 111 when she worked closely as Assistant Governor with him when he was the District Governor.

 

She stated further that they are proud to have him as Rotarian who set high standards when he was District Governor.

 

The DG also requested that the Oghara monarch do more on Oghara Rotary Club, encourage women in his kingdom to always immunize their children between 0-5 years.

 

She said there was no way she would be in Delta State without visiting Oghara, which she described as her home.

 

Responding, His Royal Majesty, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom a Past District Governor of said Oghara Kingdom is basically Rotary base and assured that he is going to nature the Oghara Rotary to be more active and vibrant Club just as he disclosed that other clubs like Sapele and others which he Charted during his tenure as DG, are doing well and assured that he will continue to support Rotary International.

 

The highpoint of the occasion was the decorations and presentation of Rotary Awards of Excellent to His Royal Majesty, Orefe 111, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom and the Oueen, by Rotary International, District 9141and Effurun Rotary Club.

 

Before the visitation by District Governor to both Monarchs, Mrs Virginia Mayor commissioned the Kolokolo Water project provided by Effurun Rotary Club, Health Centre, Ogunu, by Ogunu Rotary Club, Presentation of 100,000Naira to 4 patients for Dialysis Central Hospital Warri, Warri Metropolis Rotary Club, Donation of Hand Washing Drums and Face Masks to Nigeria Police, Area Command Warri, by Warri Rotary Club, while 20 Families were given Food Palliatives by Warri Rotary Club; while Sapele Urban and Metropolitan Clubs also gave Food Palliatives for Families.

 

Others are the Commissioning of plantation Estate Gate, Donation of Hand Washing Drums to Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, and interaction with Presidents, AGs, of Rotary Clubs by District Governor, Mrs Virginia Mayor during her visit to Delta State.
