Edo, Oredo govt committed to greener environment in Benin says Osunde

The Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Evbareke Jenkins Osunde has said that the, the Edo State Government led by Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and Oredo Local Government under his leadership has committed considerable resources to achieve a greener environment in the Metropolis.

Hon. Osunde said this while inaugurating the Council’s Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation in Benin recently.

The Council Chairman charged the Taskforce to ensure the local government is clean, maintaining that it will no longer be business as usual as anyone who runs afoul of environmental laws will be sanctioned.

While calling on them to be good ambassadors of the Council, Hon. Osunde told them to be discreet and avoid extorting people as they would be faced with different types of challenges while carrying out their jobs.

” In carrying out this job, your conduct is significant because you will face all sorts of accusations and people will attempt to bribe you to avoid prosecution. Make them understand that it is no longer business as usual. We have a lot of filth in the local government. You must do al, to ensure the clean up, of Oredo Local Government Area and what is important here is that you sensitize the people “.

Hon. Osunde said a high level of punishment would be visited on anyone found wanting noting that the Council will relieve them of their appointments if a case of corruption is established against them.

While pointing out that the inauguration of the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) Oredo Local Government Area Chapter of which he is Chairman, signals a departure from the past. The Council Boss said that all hands must be on deck to restore the lost values of the State.

In a brief remark, Chairman of the Taskforce, Mr. Ikponmwonsa Mathew Eagle, assured that members will live above board because alot of effort was committed to put the Taskforce together.

He said they will leave no stone unturned to ensure a greener environment.

In another development, the Oredo Local Government Market Verification Committee headed by Mrs. Prisillia Audu submitted their report to the Chairman.
