Truck crushes Okada rider, Man and his 3 year old daughter to death in Delta

Three persons including a 3 years old girl were on Sunday crushed to death by Dangote truck after it allegedly tried to overtake a motorcycle rider at the new road area of Sapele, Sapele Local Government area of Delta State.

The accident, which involved another Toyota Corolla, occurred at about 5pm.

The Dangote truck was said to be on speed and was trying to avoid a head on collision with a red Toyota Corolla when it rammed into the motorcycle rider and its passengers.

An eyewitness who was profusely weeping told ADVOCATE that the truck was on speed heading to Total while the Toyota Corolla was coming from the other direction, and was trying to avoid a pothole when he rammed in the Okada rider who was trying to overtake, killing the motorcyclist and it’s passengers on the spot”

The source who craved anonymity said the truck driver and another occupant in the truck took to their heels on realising the tragedy and were chased into the bush by angry residents, who later return and set the truck on ablaze. Some of the boys were reported to have cart away three bags of rice found at the back of the truck.

The Divisional Police Officer of Sapele Police Station, DSP Egong Egong said he got a call at about 5.30pm concerning an accident ; “when I got there with my men, we saw that a Dangote truck had crushed  a motorcycle rider, a man and a 3 year old girl we suspected to be his daughter.”

According to him, “the truck was set on fire by angry persons who took to their heels before the police could arrived and all we did was to call the ambulance and other agencies and the bodies has been deposited in the mortuary” he said.

Egong however advised members of the public not to take law into their hands; “We know some of these drivers do not take precautions but that is not enough reason to set the Vehicle on fire,” while sympathizing with the relatives of the dead.
