Robbers kill two police officers at check points in Delta, police after suspects

UGHELLI-APPREHENSION has gripped the people of Ughelli and its environs as two police officers attached to the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, one of which attached to the Ughelli ‘A’ Division were killed at different check points in Ughelli within three days by unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.
Sources reveals that the gunmen made away with two Ak-47 riffles belonging to the slain police officers after confirming them dead on the spot while other officers scamper for safety.
However, security operatives in the areas have embarked on mass arrest at suspected flash points within Ughelli and neighboring communities to ensure that the killers ofvthe cops are brought to book.
The first attack took place at the early hours of last week Thursday at the Otovwodo axis of the town, along the East/West road, killing the team leader, Inspector Friday Igabor of the Dragon Squared that patrol the Agbarho-Ughelli axis of the High Way, while the second occurred along the Ovwor/Oteri road which had become an escape route for hoodlums where one Corporal Kingsley Dike attached to Ughelli ‘A’division was killed at about 7.30 to 8pm carting away his Ak-47 riffle.
A source who spoke on anonymous condition, said: Inspector Friday Igabor was sleeping on a blue plastic chair when the gunmen struck, shooting him on the neck and taking away his rifle while his colleagues fled leaving him in his pool of blood.”
Another source who was at the scene of the incident when the hoodlums struck, disclosed that the colleagues of the slain inspector attached to the patrol team fled when the gunmen opened fire.
Giving details on the Friday attack, a senior police officer from the Ughelli Area Command, disclosed that the gunmen numbering 12, were driving in three Toyota Camry cars when they accosted the police team numbering five during their routine patrol and opened fire on them.
A security source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Am not authorized to speak but four of the policemen escaped into the bush when the hoodlums opened fire, but Kingsley was not so lucky as the others as he was shot on the back with the bullet exiting from his chest.
“We have being embarking on raids on flashpoints within Ughelli and environs and I can assure you that we would do everything within our power to ensure that the suspects are brought to book and the rifles recovered.”
