Retaliation is not part of the Christian ways of life -Rev Fr. Anamali

The Vicar of the Sapele Deaneries, Delta State, Reverend Father Anthony Anamali has denied the insinuation in some quarters that Christians are gathering arms in retaliation for the killings in the Northern part of the country, adding that retaliation is never part of the Christian religion.

Anamali, while addressing catholic faithfuls after the protest march to register their discontent at the alarming rate of insecurity and alleged bad governance in Nigeria, said  “Christianity has never preached retaliation and we won’t start it today,  what we will do is that we will continue to pray for the bloodletting to stop” he said.

Meanwhile, Rev Fr. Christopher Ekabo, the Vicar of St Patrick Catholic Church in Sapele, has urged all Christians to get their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, and vote their ‘conscience saying that, “only their conscience not monetary influenced vote will get things right.”

He also called on the government to put strategic measures in place to improve security.

Senator (Prof.) Adego Eferakaya, while speaking to newsmen, described the killer herdsmen as terrorist,  saying the government may be doing their best but their best is not good enough “we don’t have arms or guns, our guns are prayers” he added.

The protest which is a sequel to a directive by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, that all Catholic faithful should organise a peaceful rally in solidarity with the Benue people, as the funeral of slain brethren is being celebrated started from the church premises at Yoruba road.

The protest was preceded by a requiem mass, before the protesters carrying placards with different inscription such as: “For Unity of all Nigerians” “For Government at all level to leave up to their responsibilities”, “For respect, for sanctity of human life”, “For Security of life and property”, and so on, marched through the town, stopping briefly at the Sapele Local Government Secretariat, where they were addressed by the Secretary to the local government council, Hon. Blessing Abule.
