Callous dumping of corpses: Residents appeales to police authority, environmental health officers to make provision for proper burial  of suspected robbers

Residents of GRA road and Emurotu Street in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has called on the police authority and the environmental health department of the local government to come to their aid as the the indiscrimante dumping of corpse of suspected robbers behind the Central Hospital Ughelli by the Nigeria Police is causing health hazard to residents and causing nuisance in the area.

Speaking to our Correspondents on Monday, March 12, 2018, one of the residents in the area said the corpse of deceased robbers are being dumped by the police authority in the area without any proper burial arrangement. The resident stated that the act is causing a serious health hazard in the area as stenches from the decomposing corpse affects residents and causes gory site.
He called on the police authority to fashioned out ways to ensure such corpses are properly buried or disposed in places where such corpse will not be seen nor caused health problem to residents. In his words,“corpse is not supposed to be dumped any how or at a place where it will be seen by everyone or where its stenches will caused health problem to others.”
He said before now, when robbers are killed amd broight to that area, the police authority will liaise with mortuary section of the hospital and the hospital authority will reach out to the ministry of environment who takes over the burying of such suspected robbers. He questioned the works of local government and environmental officers, noting that their impacts are not felt at all.
He blamed the government and the police for such indiscriminate dumping which he claims causes a lot of health challenges to residents.
Efforts made to reach the Chief Environmental Officer of the Local Government proved abortive as he has already close from duty as it was already past 5pm.
As the time of filing this report, three corpse of suspected car snatchers who were allegedly shot dead by the where said to be lying behind the Ughelli Central Hospital. The police authority could not also be reached to ascertain the claim.
