Breaking: BEDC staff electricuted in Ughelli while on mass disconnection exercise

According to a source who witnessed the electricution and spoke to Advocate Newspaper, said that the BEDC staff’s who where on disconnection exercise was at the Low Cost Estate area in Ughelli to disconnect customers  owing electricity bill.

The source revealed that, after disconnecting some customers in the area, the BEDC staff where about disconnecting a partucular compound whom the source attest does not owe electricity bill and does not encourage people owing electricity bill to disconnect his compound even when the owner was not at home to confirm whether or not he has paid.

Another resident who reside in the area told Advocate Newspaper that, the deceased having known the customer for some time, begged his supervisor, a lady, not to disconnect him as he was not at home.

But his supervisor according to the resident prove defiant and ordered the Late Theophilus to climb up and disconnect the compound. Meanwhile as at the time this was going on, there was power outage, and the unsuspecting late Theophilus positioned the ladder he was using which was also confirmed to be an iron ladder in a drain filled with water closed to the electric pole.

Speaking further, the resident side the moment the deceased climbed and clipped the cable with his pliers, power was restored to area from the main station which leads to a shock that fell the BEDC staff from the pole unconsciously.

Another source who spoke to Advocate Newspaper under strict anonumity, noted that had the deceased was rushed immediately to the hospital, he would have survived but said because everyone was confused and most of the people available were busy taking photograph with their phones, the BEDC staff could not survive it.

As at the time of filing in this report, the corpse of the deceased was said to have been deposited at the Ufor Hospital, Ughelli.

Efforts made to reached out to the BEDC Area Manager was fruitless as his mobile line was switched off.

Customers to the power company has been reacting to the death of the BEDC staff saying that the particular supervisor is as wicked and stubborn, describing her as bad woman even as they attribute the death of the BEDC staff to her inconsiderate and mindless attitude.
