Stalwarts of the All Progressive Congress APC, Delta State chapter, Hon Temi Harriman, Gabriel Oyibode, and Dr Ike Odikpo have said that the task of defeating the incumbent governor of Delta state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in 2019 election is a hard nut to crack.
Speaking separately at the consultation visit by a governorship aspirant, Great Ovedje Ogboru to leaders, elders, Ward and local government executives of the party from Delta Central, they described Okowa as a deft politician who is hard to beat in any election.
According to them, “To remove an incumbent governor is more than the ordinary and unless the APC come together to fight, it would be difficult to unseat the sitting governor of Delta State.
Dr. Mike Odikpo, a governorship aspirant from Delta North who stepped down along side with Sunny Ofehe for Great Ogboru said; “I came to join Ogboru in his drive on the rescue mission because as we know it is not easy to remove a sitting governor”.
He said, “Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru is best striker and we are queuing behind him and if we miss it this time, it will be difficult for the APC.
Also, Hon. Temi Harriman, an APC stalwart noted that to defeat an incumbent governor is a very huge task but not impossible, as such, the best sellable candidate should be allowed to fly the party flag.
On his part, Chief Richard Odibo said,”We should be mindful of one fact that when Chief Ogboru becomes the governor, we shall meet empty treasury.
“We must tell the people and bring them together because to fight an incumbent governor is not easy but the time for Great Ogboru to manifest his purpose has come because he has what it takes to remove that governor in Asaba”.
However, Dr. Alex Ideh has charged APC Delta Central to be firm and work hard in delivering Chief Great Ogboru.
Sources close to the party hierarchy stated that with the internal crisis rocking the party in Delta State, APC leaders are scared that the crisis could rob the party of the opportunity of putting an end to the reign of PDP in the state.
The source is optimistic that something positive might come out before the primaries as talks is ongoing for both factions come together.
