3 persons reportedly lost their lives in Delta road accident
Three perons have reportedly lost their lives as a Toyota Prado Sport Utility Vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a bridge in Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday, September 15, during the night.
The vehicle, with registration number Abuja DK 652 ABC, was enroute Bayelsa to Warri when the accident occur.
According to tge report, the vehicle was carrying six male occupants said to be employees of an indigenous construction company in the area.
The immediate cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, but one of the survivors, who identified himself as Freeborn, told reporters that they
were on their way from Bayelsa heading to Warri when the accident occurred on Saturday night.
“We just dropped one of our colleagues who live in Agbarho at the Agbarho junction close to the bridge when the vehicle plunged into the river.”
He however gave the names of those feared dead as Jiwere Godsend Olotu, a cousin to the owner of the construction firm, a mechanic, Lucky, an electrician
and Musa, a mechanic.
He said: “We had gone to Bayelsa to fix one of the company’s faulty truck and was on our way back when the vehicle suddenly develop a fault on top of the bridge with the steering locked and failed brake, only for it to veered into the river.
Confirming the incident, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rindom Kumven, said that a search for the bodies of the three other
occupants was still on.
He said; “The survivors were rushed to the Agbarho General Hospital for treatment, and adds that the other occupants trapped could not be rescued due to the high wave of the current of the river. He said the search and rescue continues as all efforts to bring out the remaining occupants had failed.”
When newscrew visited the accident scene on Sunday, a speedboat was seen with divers searching for the remains of the accident victims.
