Lt Commander Dantani Ishaku Bukar, weekend beats 31 other amateur golfers to emerge winner of the “Okakuro Felix Anirah Golf Classic 2018,” at the Sapele Athletic Club, Sapele Local Government Delta State.
Bukar shot a brilliant final round Grossing 96, 28, and Netting 68 in 16 holes to win the Okakuro Felix Anirah Golf Classic 2018 edition by two strokes, while Useni Hassaini had 2nd Best Nett, with a score of Gross 73, 2, Nett 71 and Ikede R. followed closely with 3rd Best Nett, Grossing 80, 8, Nett 72.
Bukar, who came top in the main event also, had the longest drive super prize for men, while Mrs. Deborah Emifoniye, won the longest drive super prize for ladies, and Mr Arubayi won the super prize for Nearest the Pin for men.
In the ladies main event, Mrs. Deborah Emifoniye came top, Grossing 101, 30, with 71 Nett, emerging as the Best Nett for ladies.
Other winners, include Chief B. Oboh wining the Veteran Prize with Gross 89, 17, 72Nett, while Deacon Amos Edoriagba won the Super Veteran Prize with a Gross of 93,17, 76 Nett.
Bukar commended High Chief Felix Anirah, the sponsor of the Okakuro Felix Anirah Golf Classic 2018 edition, noting that the event brought life to the Sapele Athletic Club and also boosted business around the area, because golfer came from across the country.
Collaborating Bukar’s assertion, the Captain, Golf section, Sapele Athletic Club, Okakuro Peter Asagba, said that the tournament had invigorated the club which hosted the first Golf tournament in 1905 in Nigeria.
He charge other Trustee of the Sapele Athletic Club and other well meaning individuals and cooperate organization to emulate Okakuro Felix Anirah, by sponsoring sporting competition in the club in order to boost the tourism potential of Sapele.
The sponsor, High Chief Felix Anirah, a sport promoter in Delta state, speaking to journalists at the end of the event said that he decided to sponsor the Okakuro Felix Anirah Golf Classic 2018 edition, because he believes that sport has the potential of pulling youth out of crime.
He added that golf is not just the sport of the elite, or old people, but for everybody, because it has the potential to sharpen the mind of the payers, noting that he played golf when he was much younger and will be playing in the second edition of the competition by next year as he will resume training.
Sapele Athletic Club the first Athletic Club in Nigeria to host a Golf tournament was a behaved of activities of Saturday, as members of Nigeria Football Supporters Club were on hand to cheer the golfers who came from across the country.
Members of Rotary Club of Sapele Metropolitan led by its President, Rotarian Madu Okafor and Members of Nigerian Referee Association, led by Mr Egho Dave, 1st vice National President was not left out, as they also came in their numbers.
The golfers went home with lots of trophies and prizes, as all who participated in the competition went home with at least one prize.
