We didn’t carry out attack on Ogbe-Ijoh-Aladja leaders

By Ovasa Ogaga, ————- January 17th, 2017 ——————–

Leaders of Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta state has denied carrying out fresh attack on Ogbe-Ijoh as was credited to some leaders of Ogbe-Ijoh in a story published in Vanguard newspaper of on 17th January, 2017, saying that it was the Ogbe-Ijoh people that rather attacked them on Sunday.

Former President of Aladja community, Hon. Dennis Kabedje Etabuko reacting on behalf of the Aladja people said it was the Ijaw militants of Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba who came to attack Aladja around 8:55pm when Aladja people were already retiring in their homes for the night.

“It was a surprising scenario as the cool night air was rented by sounds of gun shots from all entry points into Aladja from the bushes separating Aladja from Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba communities. It was a well coordinated attack that was carried out simultaneously by the both communities”, he said.

According to him, Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba had earlier threatened that they would cause unrest if their leaders being detained at the Ogwashi-Uku Prisons were not released.

The attack, he said was however repelled by the gallant display of the Mobile Policemen stationed at Aladja to keep the peace, adding that the shooting which lasted for hours into the night brought to the fore the rumoured plan of the Ijaws to attack Aladja and kill serving military or police personnel to make it look like it was done by Aladja youths thereby inciting the government forces against Aladja.

Etabuko noted that the people of Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba were attacked in order to sway government decision in their favour, adding that it cannot happen as the land was given to Aladja by God and that nobody can take it from them.

He called on the commissioner of police, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Zanna to send his men to do a thorough investigation of the incident and apportion the appropriate punishment for breaching the peace.
