Sen. Eferakeya Presents Autobiography at his 76th Birthday …He is a genius -Prof. Okobiah

Senator (Prof.) Adego Eferakeya, a professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, at the weekend, Amukpe, Sapele, Delta State, presented his Autobiography titled; “My Life Journey So Far,” to mark his 76th birthday anniversary celebration.

Professor Omamurhomu Okobiah in his opening remark as the chairman of the occasion, described Sen. Eferakeya as embodiment of academic excellence and a genius who achieved great feat through determination.

 

He noted that the Sen. Eferakeya who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the 5th Senate braced all odds to attain enviable position in life, stressing that no man is born without abilities to succeed.

 

The book reviewer, Prof. Ray Ozolua, his former student and a colleague at the University of Benin, stated that the book which has 14 chapters with 492 pages, chronicles Sen. Eferakeya’s life from birth, early life, education and work life, his family, religion, community life, his brief adventure into politics, opinions of others on the man Eferakeya, recognition and awards, his academic publications and worldview.

 

According to Prof. Ozolua, “I recall how often I was inundated with stores by senior students, of a fascinating lecturer who had studied pharmacy and then went ahead to study medicine, a feat that is by all standards enviable.”

 

He added that the synergy of specialist training in cardiovascular pharmacology, and being a pharmacist and a medical doctor stands Prof. Eferakeya’s out among his contemporaries.  “Prof. Eferakeya is amiable, affable, gregarious and fascinatingly sociable,” he therefore recommends the book to all lovers of knowledge.

Unveiling the book, Prof. Sam  Oyovbaire, former minister for information, urged the younger generation to form the habits of reading books, adding that the crazy for internet is gradually eroding book reading culture, noting that the content of a book is better understood and appreciated through the hard-copy.

 

He stated further that the story of Prof. Eferakeya is that of determination to succeed against all odds,  “this a man who excel in academics, so much so, that he became the envy of his colleague at the University of Benin,” he noted.

 

Earlier Holy Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Amukpe, Sapele, in his homily, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. John Oke’ Afareha, the Bishop of Warri Catholic Diocese, charged Christians to be thankful to God, and be committed to serving God with their resources.

 

Other dignitaries at the event includes;  Ovie of Uvwie and Ovie of Mosogar, Hon. Monday Igbuya, Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly,  Chief Ighoyota Amori, notable chiefs from Okpe kingdom, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ekabo, Rev. Fr. Joseph Inana, delegation from University of Benin and many others.
