Traffic Jam in Ughelli

Otovwodo Junction Gridlock: Residents, commuters want government intervention

By Ese Daniels,

Residents and stakeholders in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area have expressed worries over the consistent gridlock commuters passing the East-West Road experience daily at Otovwodo Junction due to the blockage of the road by market women, especially during the weekends.

Advocate.ng also gathered that apart from the activities of street traders on the road, that the failed portions at the junction are also the major causes of traffic at the location.

A driver who plies the road constantly, Mr Monday Ifie, also accuse his fellow drivers who pick Warri passengers along the junction, as a major contributor to the traffic jams, berating them for turning a portion of the road into their park.

He, therefore, tasked the local council authority in Ughelli North to enforce the usage of the Otovwodo motor park for loading passengers, adding that the part was big enough to contain the Warri drivers.

Mrs Rose Ubi, a trader who regularly uses that portion of the road, stated that there was another route through Agbarha-otor but the loneliness of the road and the insecurity issues in the country scared people from using it.

Commuters plying the ever-busy Otovwodo Junction called on the Delta State Government to come to their aid by reconstructing the failed potion of the road and also clear the traders and drivers from the road.
