Apostle Igiehon calls on FG, ASUU to resolve lingering university strike

By Angela James,

The Senior Pastor of Banner of Solution Christian Assembly International Incorporated, Benin, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Igiehon has called on the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to resolve the issues between them.

The Clergyman made this call while speaking with journalists in his church auditorium in Benin.

Apostle Igiehon said that ASUU will not embark on strike without justifiable reason adding that government should positively respond and address the issues raised by the union.

Apostle Dr. Igiehon urged the government at all levels to prioritize education to secure the future of youth and that of the nation.

“Education is the bedrock of development and without teachers, there is no nation. Education is what will make this country a viable one. Government should put all necessary things on ground for the tertiary institutions to flourish. This is the place where professionals are churned out to contribute their quota towards building the economy of the nation.

The issue is in the hands of the federal government which should yield to the demands of ASUU. Our children are wasting away at home while courses that are a maximum of four years now take longer to finish”.

The Clergyman who expressed fear over the rate of crime and the use of drugs by youths if the issues between the Federal Government and ASUU are left to linger noted that the more students are at home the greater the opportunity for them to mingle with unscrupulous elements in the society.
